Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how ReelSave ("we", "our", or "us") handles information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

1. Information We Do Not Collect

ReelSave is intentionally designed to be privacy-respecting. We do not collect:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal information.
• Your Instagram credentials, username, or password — you never log in to Instagram inside our app.
• The reels you save (we don't keep a copy on our servers).
• Your contacts, location, or device identifiers.
• Your browsing history outside the app.

2. Information Stored Only on Your Device

The following information stays on your phone and is never transmitted to us:

• Your saved reels library — metadata of reels you've downloaded (caption, account handle, file size, timestamp). Stored in the app's local storage on your device.
• Your app settings — your quality preference, Wi-Fi-only toggle, etc. Stored locally.
• The downloaded reel files — saved to your phone's Pictures folder (or equivalent) under "ReelSave".

If you uninstall the App, all of the above is removed from your device. There is no server-side copy.

3. Information Sent to Our Backend Service

When you tap "Download" on a reel link, ReelSave sends the public Instagram reel URL to our backend service for resolution. Specifically:

• What we send: The Instagram reel URL you provided, plus a quality preference (e.g., "1080p").
• What we receive: A direct video URL that we use to download the reel to your device.
• What we store: The reel URL is briefly cached in memory (up to 1 hour) to speed up repeated requests. We do not log it long-term, do not associate it with any user identity, and do not share it with third parties.
• What we do not store: The video file itself, your IP address, or any identifying information from your phone.

Our backend service runs on Firebase Cloud Functions (Google Cloud, asia-south1 region — Mumbai).

4. Third-Party Services We Use

• Google Firebase / Google Cloud — hosts our backend resolution service. Google may log generic infrastructure metrics (request volume, error rates) but does not receive personal information from us. Their privacy policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
• Instagram — when our backend resolves a reel URL, it makes a request to Instagram on your behalf. Instagram may log this request as it would any browser request to their site. Their privacy policy: help.instagram.com/519522125107875

We do not use:

• Google Analytics
• AdMob or any ad networks
• Crash reporting or telemetry SDKs (in this version)
• Social media login providers

5. Permissions We Request

The App requests the following Android permissions, and uses them only as stated:

• Internet access — to communicate with our backend resolver and download reels from Instagram's CDN.
• Photos and Videos / Media access — to save downloaded reels to your phone's gallery and to display the player.
• Network state — to detect whether you're on Wi-Fi when "Download on Wi-Fi only" is enabled.

We do not request access to your contacts, location, microphone, camera, calendar, SMS, call logs, or device IDs.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We do not use cookies, fingerprinting, ad identifiers, or any cross-app tracking technologies inside the App.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used the App, please contact us and we will help confirm there is no personal data to delete.

8. Content Responsibility

ReelSave is a personal media tool. You are responsible for:

• Only downloading content you have the right to download (your own content, or publicly-licensed content).
• Respecting Instagram's Terms of Service and the copyright of original creators.
• Using downloaded reels for personal viewing only — not for redistribution.

We do not host or distribute any content. We do not store downloaded reels on our servers.

9. Data Retention

• Reel URL cache (backend): cleared automatically after 1 hour. We retain nothing longer.
• Server logs: Google Cloud / Firebase retains infrastructure logs for up to 30 days for diagnostic purposes. These do not contain user-identifying information.
• Your data on the device: kept until you delete a reel, clear the cache, or uninstall the app.

10. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personal information, there is nothing tied to you for us to access, modify, or delete from our servers. If you want to remove all ReelSave data:

• Delete individual reels from the Saved tab.
• Clear cache from More → Storage → Clear cache.
• Uninstall the App to remove everything.

If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, India, or any other jurisdiction with data-protection laws, the limited data described in this policy is processed on the legal basis of legitimate interest in providing the requested service (resolving a reel URL).

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
